Got the call this afternoon that the AFP is normal! One more hurdle jumped! Now, just for the cervical check next Friday. (Well, until the next thing, of course.....) But, it seems that whatever happens now, this was one good egg (maybe the only one, ha!) and my body is so far doing a pretty darn good job of giving the little girl it produced (along with Mr.Right's sperm) a home.
I actually broke out the Bella Band (well, the Target version of Bella Band) that I bought the other day to go have lunch with a friend this afternoon. The jeans I wore had been getting to the point of not being able to be buttoned and, indeed, freshly washed today I found it was impossible. The Bella Band worked pretty well. Although by the time I got home I just wanted to get into yoga pants. I'm not sure if it was that uncomfortable or if it really was because I was feeling a bit bloated. Not sure what was going on there, except I've been eating tons of veggies (with hummous) and fruit and my kashi GoLean cereal, etc. in an attempt not to stuff cookies and Easter candy in my face. A walk with the pup just a little while ago went a long way to taking care of some of the bloat though.
Anyhow, back to the clothing issue. My big challenge is that I have 5 days of meetings the week after next for one of my consulting gigs and I have no idea what's going to fit by then. I'll be in Pennsylvania this next week taking my MIL to more foot surgery and taking care of her through Friday so I have plans to go to the outlets (no sales tax on clothing in PA) and try and get a few things that are business meeting wearable. I plan to go through my closet this weekend to see if anything in there might be wearable and what I could add to make it through 5 days. But the way things have been progressing the last few days - all of the sudden my lower abdomen has really started to pop out and right in the middle, not all the way around like when you add a layer of blubber - I'm not sure that what I try on this weekend will be still wearable in a week or week and a half.
So, we'll see.
Also wanted to point any of you fellow geezers out there to this new forum: A Child After 40. You can join the community by going to this link: http://www.flowerpowermom.com/community
The announcement for this was on the PVED blog. I love the blogging community here and am not a huge bulletin board sort of person, but I've been really searching for some information/a forum for women experiencing pregnancy and motherhood after 40 (I know there are a few of you here with me.). I don't mean to be disparaging of younger mothers, but so many of the books and so on seem to be written for 22 year olds (as they probably need to be.) I consider myself as having been pretty immature at 22 so I can see that I would have really needed the patronizing tone of "What to Expect..." and other books at that point. But, I hope I've matured quite a bit since then and really don't need the lectures anymore.
Anyhow, I'm going to try it out. They have groups for those who are TTC at 40+, those who are pregnant at 40+ and those who became moms at 40+ and are now parenting.

oh happy times! Congrats on all the good news so far. At it's pretty darn exciting that you are starting to not only think pregnant thoughts, but that your body is beginning to feel it and look it. Yeah!
ReplyDeleteGeezer, eh? :-) Seriously, there are times when I have to get up from the floor holding my now-11lb baby and I think "shit -- I should have done this before 40!"
ReplyDeleteRock the empire waist -- it helped me all the way through 15 weeks.
:) so happy for you.
ReplyDeleteGood luck finding clothes. It happens fast. I have some clothes I got and thought I will NEVER fit into this, then I actually missed it and they are too tight. BUt a good problem to have. :)
ReplyDeleteGreat news! I'm glad things are progressing. I do hope you find nice things to wear.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the Geezer link!
Wonderful news! Have fun finding some new clothes! And how exciting that you're rocking a belly!!!
ReplyDeleteWonderful news! :)
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! I am so inspired by you!
ReplyDeleteLove,
Maddy
The forum sounds good and well worth checking out. I think age (ahem, the wisdom of years) does make it a different experience. It has to. And that's great news about the AFP. Fingers crossed for the cervical check.
ReplyDeleteThe clothes thing - ach. It's all very surreal. I tried one of those infernal bands on today (some knock off version) and that sucker was TIGHT. Not quite sure how to handle the bridge thing, myself. And, bloat. Oh yes indeedy.
So happy to learn of your miracle baby! Gives us all hope :) Congrats and thank you for your kind words.
