A TMI forewarning: Could it possibly be that this cycle is over already and it was 12 days long?!? I'm spotting differently today and yesterday than I did right after the laparoscopy on Monday. Monday was clearly remnants - darker, globbier, some other stuff (I assume lubricant, gel or something)? Tuesday it was almost over, I thought. And then yesterday, I started lightly spotting but brighter red. I noticed it before I went out to run at mid-day and when I came back. Then nothing for most of the afternoon and overnight, but it started up again today. None of it has been heavy (even Monday) - nothing a very thin panty liner couldn't handle for a couple of hours. (But then, even if it is my period, I can't imagine it would be that heavy anyhow since the lining only had 10 or 11 days to build up, right?)
So, it's either still spotting from the surgery. Or, it's the end of this cycle and the beginning of a new one. Sigh...... Talked to our nurse at the fertility clinic this afternoon. Given the confusion my body is in, it may be they suggest sitting out another cycle before we do another IVF round. Which, at this point, I'm thinking, maybe we *should* just give my body a rest for a little while. That likely means we won't fit another IVF cycle in before our Memorial Day week vacation (and, oh yes, my 40th birthday). Double sigh..... But it does just seem to make sense to me to let things clear out, settle in, whatever it is that my body needs to do to get back on track. Of course, what track would that be? I'm not sure it ever had a normal track.
On the brighter side of things.... we're off to a 40th birthday party tonight for one of Mr.Right's friends from high school. It should be fun. We'll be doing the chef's tasting menu at a very good Belgian restaurant (the birthday boy is a serious Belgian beer aficionado) and if there's one silver lining in any of this, it is that I will be able to drink as much as I want tonight!

Giving yourself a bit of a break may be in order. I know every medicine and shot affects my body differently. After my last IVF attempt, my period didn't appear for 45 days or so. It has become so hard to track, especially when I'm going from one treatment to the next.
ReplyDeleteI wish you luck! And, enjoy the beer. I LOVE white beers from the Netherlands and Belgium...YUM...Cue the drooling :-)
Take care of yourself!
I think it's a great idea to wait a bit til you start the next IVF. You need to give your body every advantage it can take to make sure it's successful.
ReplyDeleteHope you had a fabulous time at the Belgian restaurant - sounds wonderful!
You know, I had a strange cycle after my surgery too. I had moderate to heavy spotting for about 5 days and then went into a full-on bleed several days before my period was normally due. I think it makes sense to give your body a bit of a rest.
ReplyDeleteOh and, by the way, I often have very short cycles too (i.e. 20 or 21 days w/ ovulation as early as CD9). My doctor told me it's an age thing (great!) but I'm not sure what the specific medical reason is--not enough estrogen maybe? I started on some herbals not too long ago that were recommended in, "The Fertile Soul," and they do seem to help. I know you can't really do herbs with an IVF cycle, so that doesn't really help you much at the moment but if you ever want the info let me know.
