Plan A or Plan B?

Monitoring appointment this morning revealed an 18mm and a 14+mm follicle (one on each side, I think). Might trigger tonight, but they want to wait and see what estrogen level looks like this afternoon. So, we're still on pins and needles a bit about Plan A versus Plan B.

What are Plan A and Plan B, you ask? Well, as if doing a 4 hour home inspection this afternoon, getting new tile backsplashes in kitchen this morning and having an IUI either Friday or Saturday weren't enough, my mother-in-law is having foot surgery tomorrow. She lives about 2.5 hours drive north of us and I had committed to going and helping her to/from the surgery and probably for a couple of days afterwards. I totally love my MIL, so this is all good. However, infertility gets in the way again:

So, Plan A is: if I get told this afternoon that we'll trigger (Ovidrel) tonight, then I'll drive to MIL's house after home inspection is done ~5:30 p.m. and trigger myself (managed to do my own Gonal-f injection last night with onlooking help from Mr.Right!); take my MIL to/from surgery tomorrow; then drive back home on Thursday evening for IUI at 9:45 a.m. on Friday morning. My own mother is going to come to MIL's house on Thursday evening before I leave so that someone will be there for her.

Plan B is: if I get told that they want us to wait until tomorrow to trigger, then assuming I will have to go in for another monitoring appointment tomorrow morning, I won't go to MIL's and won't be able to take her to/from surgery tomorrow. So, my mother will actually drive tonight to MIL's and take her to/from surgery tomorrow and then I'd drive up after monitoring appointment (and acupuncture appt). And then for IUI on Saturday, I'd get up super early and drive home for IUI while Mr.Right drops his stuff off at the clinic early and heads in the opposite direction for his mother's house. And we'll probably pass each other on the road! So much for conceiving our child while even in the same state!

Hopefully, Plan A will be the one. And it sounded like it would be from BabyDoc's thoughts this morning (BabyDoc is this really sweet, young doctor at our clinic whom I first met when he did my HSG, then he did my D&C and then our one (so far) retrieval and transfer back. He's starting to take on his own patients instead of doing so many procedures, though, I think. And he's totally nice and sensitive and tries hard to say the right things. So not Dr.Dry!!)

Anyhooo, that's the scoop. Will be taking that call from the clinic during our home inspection and then getting on phone to let my mom know whether she needs to start heading out for my MIL's house or whether she will need to go Thursday night.

Oh, what fun infertility is!!! Wreaks havoc on any kind of plans or schedule that you oh-so-naively make. Oh well, feeling good on this one. Of course, only a ~ 20% chance of working, but we've been playing the lottery that is IUI/IVF for a while now so I think it's probably our turn, right?

  1. Seriously, this IF stuff completely takes over your life! I'm hoping for Plan A - would be much much better!!! And yes, it is definitely your turn!!!

Thanks so much for your suggestion on my blog about getting away after the beta. Thankfully, we have had plans for awhile to leave town that afternoon, I should get the beta results right before I board a plane... Oh that could be awful... But thanks so much for the tip. No matter what, it will be nice to get away, no matter what the outcome. Now have you scheduled a trip after your beta???

Hope the rest of this week, with your IUI and MIL, go well!
