First OB appointment

No ultrasounds at the first OB appointment yesterday :-( We were so anxious to see our little bean again (Mr.Right especially so since he hadn't been to an ultrasound in 2 weeks.) But, alas, the OB practice has what the nurse practitioner described as an 'old' ultrasound machine which, apparently, was not showing much of anything the last time she looked at it.

I did get the internal exam (not horribly unpleasant but I could have done without) and confirmed that my uterus is appropriatly the size of a "navel orange." yay! (I guess)

Otherwise, the appointment was fine. Blood drawn for a bunch of tests I just had at the beginning of April pre-lap surgery, but hey, you can never be too sure that you don't have HIV, right? ;-)

The good news is that there will be an ultrasound in 3 weeks. We opted to do the nuchal translucency test which includes an ultrasound (I think Mr.Right and I were totally on the same page about this - even though the test is not diagnostic and can only 'indicate' a possible problem, we were both thinking: an ultrasound! we get to see our little bean again!) So, that's scheduled for July 21 (a Wednesday afternoon which makes it possible for Mr.Right to be there.) Blood draw for those tests on Monday, July 12.

So, we're just cautiously hopeful that all is going well. As I told Mr.Right on the way out of the OB appointment, what's the worst case scenario? We aren't aware until either a) I start miscarrying, or b) the next ultrasound that our little bean's heart has already stopped. The only thing we might be doing differently if we had found that out yesterday with an ultrasound is scheduling a D&C for perhaps sooner than we otherwise would have. Tops, that's 3 weeks lost (til the ultrasound on July 21). In the grand scheme of over 1.5 years of trying, that's not really very much time.

So, we decided to tell his mom and my parents this weekend. We'll stop and stay at my MIL's on Friday night on the way to my parents' cottage on Saturday for the 4th of July weekend. We have the pics from last week's ultrasound so we'll take those to show them. My parents were here Tuesday and Wednesday helping us do a few things around the new house (and snooping around looking at our new house ;-) ) and once again I wasn't drinking alcohol or coffee (we've seen them about 4 weekends since our first beta) so I'm sure they're wondering what's going on. And, oh yeah, I ran off to a mysterious 'appointment' yesterday afternoon before they left to go home.

I so hope that we'll be able to keep the good news coming after this weekend's big good news event. Crossing fingers (and toes...and whatever else I can cross.)

  1. Yay! Good luck with nuchal fold. We did that with our daugher(when I was 35). My odds based on age alone were 1/238 (for downs) but after the test and blood work the odds given to me were 1/5,874 (or close). Crazy thing my young (30yrold) odds were 1/10,000 (ish) Ahhh to be so young.

    Have a great 4th.
