Initial results of the CVS test came back this afternoon. We have normal chromosomes in 13, 18 and 21! And we appropriately have 2 sex chromosomes. An X and.....
......wait for it........
......another X!
It's a girl!!
The full results will be back 7-10 days from today. And I suppose we can't completely rest until we get those. But we've had so much genetic testing, both of us, that we know we're not carriers for a lot of the most common genetic conditions that might be revealed with the more detailed testing. So, we were really mostly worried about the common trisomies given our history. And we're in the clear there.
Unfortunately, no news on the toxoplasmosis front. I called my OB's office this afternoon but they hadn't gotten lab report back yet from Quest. They were going to try and track it down but said if I didn't hear from them today, they probably weren't going to get it. So, we'll wait until tomorrow. And we know it's highly unlikely there will even be resolution to this tomorrow (although I'm going to wish my little heart out for such an outcome tonight.) We'll likely be looking at further blood tests in another few weeks or getting more blood drawn to send to the reference lab in Palo Alto to get more detailed analysis.
Anyhow, we're holding tight to the notion that it is extremely rare for a baby to be born infected with toxoplasmosis. That even *if* in the highly unlikely event that I did contract an infection in the first 10 weeks of my pregnancy that there is then only a 15% chance of me having passed the infection on to the baby. And, at worst, we'll get a definitive answer with an amniocentesis in 6 weeks from now.
I IM'd Mr.Right at the office just a little while ago to give him the news (with his mother sitting across from me in the living room - and no, we're not telling her or my parents until we figure out the toxo thing). He was ecstatic (well, as ecstatic as you can be on IM). This will be the first (and who knows if it will be the only?) girl grandchild in either of our families. She'll have 4 older cousins (2 on my side; 2 on Mr.Right's side) to look up to (or get spoiled by; or torture as only little girls can do :-) )
